Spring and summer in Delaware surely mean a trip to the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay and the broad sand beaches of the Delaware Coast. Dewey Beach, among the coastal communities, is one of the most popular. Known as The Nation’s Summer Capital, Dewey Beach and neighboring Rehoboth Beach have a full calendar of events and activities for visitors. The Dewey Beach Popfest, hosted at the Rusty Rudder, features four stages of live music. The Seven Sisters and Two Brothers of Dewey Beach running and walking series offers a season full of runs and walks, while June weather brings graduating students to the beach for senior week.
Dover celebrates its history and heritage at Dover Days 2013. The 80th anniversary of the celebration, 2013 Dover Days is a festival of culture, arts and is Dover County’s largest festival. Old Dover Days is April 28th through May 5th at various locations including The Green in downtown Dover.
Events kick off with A Toast to Dover and the opening of the Dover Days Festival on Sunday the 28th. A week of events and fun follows, culminating at the Legislative Mall on the 5th with a Civil War era baseball game between the Diamond State Baseball Club and the Lewes Base Ball Club.
May also brings the Wilmington Grand Prix 2013 to Delaware. Held May 17th through 19th, this USA Cycling national criterium calendar event features the Monkey Hill Time Trial, the Wilmington Grand Prix, and Wilmington Grand Prix Gran Fondo. Saturday events feature the Parade to Fight Hunger, followed by and day full of fun along six blocks of downtown Wilmington.
One of the east coast’s premier music events, the 2013 Firefly Music Festival comes to Dover June 21st through 23rd. Held north of downtown at the Woodlands of Dover International Speedway, Firefly features a three-day lineup headlined by the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and Foster the People. Along with amazing music, Firefly 2013 features the Hammock Hangout, evening lighting and video at The Pathway and enhanced food and beverages.
