Dewey Beach: Beaches

Head to the 6,000-acre Blackbird State Forest for hiking, biking and horseback riding on the many nature trails, or take a stroll through the Blackbird State Forest Education Center. Blackbird Forest is home to 10 tracts – or multipurpose trails – throughout the area. The Tybout Tract is wheelchair accessible, while the Meadows Tract takes you right to the educational center. Other recreational trails include the Barlow Tract and the Oak Hill Tract, so be sure to sign up for horseback riding, or just bring those hiking boots.
Of course you could also get those cameras ready and head to the 16,000-acre Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge – just eight miles from the Best Western hotel in Smyrna. Brandywine Park is great place to take the kids during your time in Wilmongton. Free to the public, the park is home to Brandywine Zoo and Baynard Stadium. Spread over 12 acres, Brandywine Zoo welcomes guests daily from May to November, 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. Check out the Exotic Animal House, and don’t miss a visit with the capybara of the Brandywine Zoo.
